Dr. Lopes received the following letter from Taylor, a young vibrant high school gymnast that presented in Dr. Lopes’ practice at Rush University Medical Center with a large AVM. Taylor had experienced a seizure that left her unable to control movement in her arm and leg. Given the size and location of the AVM, along with Taylor’s ambitions to continue as a competitive gymnast, Dr. Lopes recommended treatment of the AVM with Onyx. Complete occlusion was achieved and Dr. Lopes gave Taylor his blessing to continue with the sport she loves. Taylor also shared her college recruitment video with Dr. Lopes.
Dr. Lopes,
I just wanted to thank you for everything that you have done for me! Before my surgeries, I would never have thought that I would be back on my feet doing what I am now. Since I was cleared, I was able to compete in gymnastics only about 4 months later which was extremely exciting for me. Also, I was healthy all last year and had a very successful season last season. Right now, I am still on my search for the right college that I can compete for. Without you and your courage to take a chance with the embolizations, none of this would have happened and I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for what you did and I can’t thank you enough. I thought you would enjoy my college recruit video for gymnastics so I attached it to this e-mail. I hope everything is going great for you and I know that there are probably millions of other patients just as thankful as me for you and your work! Have a great day and hope to keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Taylor
